Add Tags with Macros

September 30, 2016
An update is available for Onetastic that adds the ability to add tags with Macros. With this update tags are first class objects in Macro language. Previously only the first tag in a paragraph was available with tagName property and any additional tags were not available. A new tags property is now added to access all tags in a given paragraph. Also InsertObject function can now add tags to paragraphs as well as images and embedded files when they are directly under a page.

New Macros

New macros are added to Macroland, demonstrating how to add tags in Macro language.

Search & Tag

Search & Tag macro allows finding paragraphs with given search term and automatically applying the desired tag to it.

Search & Tag

23 tags are available from the list and the macro can be executed against the current selection, current page, section, notebook or all notebooks. Additionally it can be used to inserted completed (checked) tag or complete (check) existing tags instead of adding new tags.

Sample - Insert Tags

Sample - Insert Tags macro is a sample macro that shows how to use tags. It inserts all available tag symbols onto a new page. Following symbols can be used with tags. This information can also be found in the Tag object documentation.

Despite being a long-time OneNote user, I only just discovered Onetastic, which looks very promising. I'm hoping Onetastic can help me overcome OneNote's severe tagging limitations, either now or in the near future. If not, I may have to move to Evernote, which I really do NOT want to do, but I need its superior tagging abilities. Can Onetastic can help me overcome OneNote's tagging deficiency?

For those looking for tag searching:
In some ways, you can tag notes just by adding a "tag line" to the top, bottom, or heck, middle of the page.
What you can't do is see what tags you may have used to remind you what to search for or use to tag a page with.  So you can get half of what you want with default behavior.

Julski: No OneNote does not search tags from search box and there is no way to make it do so. It has a Find Tags button on the ribbon and there are several macros to generate tag summary pages
